Korithi Village - Zante Zakynthos Greece

Near Korithi is the attractive stone Skinari Lighthouse which was built in 1897 to a height of 9.5 m. Korithi had no electricity until 1970. The men who work at the light house rotate every 2 weeks so they do not suffer too much from the effects of isolation.
The scenery around here is stunning, offering a green mountain landscape combined with the deep blue of the Ionian Sea makes for simply breathtaking views. The area is rich with flora and fauna, including some rare types of plants native only to Zante. Monk seals are visitors to this area and many have given birth in the caves in the vicinity, this is environmentally important as monk seals are an endangered species.
The famous Blue caves are also near Korithi with boat trips departing to the caves from Skinari and Agios Nikolaos harbour, these are a very popular tourist destination and well worth a visit as it is a highlight of Zante with white cliffs, golden sandy beaches and the deep blue hue of the sea combing to form a gorgeous landscape. Although there are many blue caves in the world, there are only 3 in Greece, so visiting the caves really is a special opportunity to see something exceptional.
