The airport on Zakynthos is called Dionysos Solomos and is located on the south of the island, 1 km from the popular resort of Laganas and 6 km from the islands capital town. Zante airport is the fifth busiest in Greece with many visitors passing through this airport every year.
In 2008 a brand new airport was opened to replace the smaller older one, which was struggling to cope with the increasing arrivals and departures. The airport has greatly improved due to the spacious new arrivals and departure areas making the whole process of passengers much quicker and efficient.
Night flights are banned on Zakynthos, so as not to disturb the endangered Caretta Caretta turtles which nest their eggs on the beaches of Zante. As night flights are banned, it means that the hours for planes to arrive and depart are severely restricted. There can be congestion at times due to planes having to land close together. Both the arrivals and departures areas are fully air- conditioned and the departures area has a snack bar and duty free shop.
If you have booked a package holiday transfer to your accommodation is likely to be included and the coaches will be waiting at the front of the airport. There is also a taxi rank which has a constant stream of taxi's which are recognized by their unique silver/grey colour. Taxis can also be booked in advance from the airport, for more information please follow this link www.zantetaxi.gr.
